Most massage chairs claim to relax you. But are they actually doing anything beyond pressing on your muscles? We wanted to know, so we put Bi-Stretch to the test.
In a controlled study, Bi-Stretch went head‑to‑head with a traditional massage chair. The researchers measured two things: muscle relaxation and joint mobility.
What the Lab Measured
For muscle relaxation, they used surface electromyography (sEMG) to track muscle activity before and after each session. The rule is simple: the more muscle activity drops, the more relaxed you are.
For joint mobility, they measured range of motion across four movements: hip flexion, hip abduction, hip extension, and knee flexion.
Muscle Relaxation: Bi-Stretch vs. Traditional
Averaged across five muscle groups, Bi-Stretch delivered a 29.1% relaxation rate. The traditional chair managed just 12.2% . That is a 138.5% improvement.
The most striking difference was in the rectus femoris, the large muscle at the front of your thigh. Bi-Stretch achieved 50.0% relaxation, compared to only 8.4% from the traditional chair. That is nearly six times more effective.
Joint Mobility: Moving Freely Again
Relaxation is one thing. Moving better is another.

Hip abduction (outward) : Bi‑Stretch improved range of motion by 10.7% ; the traditional chair, just 1.9% . That is a 463% improvement.

Knee flexion : Bi‑Stretch delivered a 4.0% gain, while the traditional chair actually declined by 0.2% . That is a 2100% improvement.
Overall, Bi‑Stretch produced an 8.8% improvement in joint mobility, compared to just 1.4% from the traditional chair. That is a 528.6% increase.
The lab's conclusion was straightforward: Bi‑Stretch delivers measurable, repeatable results.
Why Bi-Stretch Works Differently
The difference comes down to design. Traditional chairs treat both legs as one unit. They move together, up and down, as if tied to the same rope.
Bi‑Stretch uses an independent left‑right leg system. Each leg moves on its own. One can stretch while the other stays in place. This allows for PNF stretching, the same technique physical therapists use to improve range of motion.
